It’s basically the same as a project manager’s job anywhere. He/she has to ensure that all involved parties are informed what they have to do and when. He/she must also ensure that all parties know the schedule of others’ activities and when & how these may impact their own. He must also supervise the tracking of progress and projected progress against the schedule, costs and claims, taking prompt action where needed and must decide on priorities in the case of conflict and help resolve disputes among subcontractors.
He also has overall responsibility (but also usually assistance) for a heap of other activities such as QA/QC, safety, fire prevention and drills, material checks and storage, insurance claims, customer relations, transport, security, reporting and contact to home office, daily work meetings and weekly or monthly management meetings.
